Project responsibilities
Delivery and Installation Terms
Detailed terms covering access, offloading, lifting, supporting structures, roof integration, customer installation, UK installation and overseas delivery.
Version date: 18 August 2026
These terms explain the practical and contractual responsibilities for delivery and installation of a Bespoke Tower Clock. They form part of the Contract where referred to in the Order Confirmation.
1. Scope
The Quotation will state whether the order is:
- supply only;
- supply with UK delivery;
- supply with delivery and a limited installation service;
- a full project-specific installation package; or
- an international supply contract.
Only work expressly listed is included.
2. Product information supplied
Depending on the project, we may provide:
- overall product dimensions and base size;
- finished product weight;
- fixing-interface information;
- recommended support or curb information;
- lifting and handling guidance;
- access and servicing requirements;
- clock-system and electrical information; and
- project-specific limitations or installation notes.
This information relates to the supplied Goods. It is not a structural assessment of the receiving building unless a structural engineering service is expressly included.
3. Customer responsibilities on supply-only projects
Unless the Quotation says otherwise, the customer is responsible for appointing competent professionals and for:
- planning permission, listed-building consent and other approvals;
- Building Regulations and building-control requirements;
- checking title, landlord, lender and property restrictions;
- confirming the existing building and support are structurally suitable;
- structural design of the opening, support frame, curb, trimmers and surrounding roof;
- the roof opening, weathering details, flashings and waterproof integration;
- scaffolding, edge protection, lifting plans, exclusion zones and safe access;
- craneage, telehandler, hoist or other lifting equipment;
- electrical supply, isolation, connection, earthing and certification;
- final commissioning where not included; and
- maintenance access throughout the life of the tower.
4. Delivery access and unloading
The customer must provide accurate access information before dispatch.
Unless included in writing, delivery is to a safe kerbside or other accessible unloading point. The customer must ensure that:
- the route is suitable for the delivery vehicle;
- gates, bridges, surfaces, turning space and overhead clearances are adequate;
- any restrictions, time limits or permits have been disclosed;
- an authorised person is present; and
- any customer-provided plant and operator are suitable, insured and ready.
Waiting time, aborted delivery, return transport, storage and redelivery caused by inaccurate information or an unready Site may be charged at reasonable cost.
5. Offloading and lifting
No person may stand beneath a suspended load or enter an exclusion zone.
A lifting operation must be planned and supervised by competent persons using equipment with adequate capacity and current certification.
The product must be lifted only at approved points or in the approved manner. Damage caused by unapproved slinging, forks, drilling, impact or handling after risk passes is not a manufacturing defect.
Where we arrange lifting, our exact scope and the person responsible for the crane, lift plan, temporary works and exclusion zone will be stated in writing.
6. Risk and receipt
For a Consumer, risk remains with us until the Goods come into the physical possession of the Consumer or a person identified by the Consumer, except where the Consumer independently appoints a carrier not offered by us.
For a Business Customer, risk passes at the agreed delivery point or when the Goods are handed to the customer’s carrier, as stated in the Contract.
Please inspect the delivery and packaging promptly. Record visible transport damage on the delivery note and send photographs as soon as reasonably possible. Failure to do so does not remove a Consumer’s statutory rights.
7. Storage before installation
After risk passes, the Goods must be stored securely, upright or supported as instructed, protected from impact, standing water, contamination, unauthorised access and extreme conditions.
Protective wrapping intended for transport must not be left in a way that traps moisture or condensation.
Clock components and electrical controls must be kept dry and within the supplier’s storage conditions.
8. Site readiness for our installation work
Before our agreed attendance date, the customer must ensure that:
- all required approvals are in place;
- the support and roof preparation are complete to the agreed stage;
- safe access, scaffolding and edge protection are available where included by the customer;
- the Site is clear and accessible;
- electricity and other agreed facilities are available;
- relevant contractors will attend when required;
- asbestos and other hazards have been surveyed and disclosed; and
- members of the public, occupants, children, animals and vehicles can be kept outside the work area.
If the Site is not ready or safe, we may postpone or stop work and charge reasonable abortive attendance, waiting, storage and remobilisation costs.
9. Existing structures and hidden conditions
We are not responsible for hidden decay, inadequate rafters, defective roof coverings, asbestos, concealed services, previous poor workmanship or other existing conditions that were not included in our written scope.
If such a condition is found, work may pause while a safe solution and Variation are agreed.
10. Waterproofing and roof integration
Unless expressly included, the customer’s roofer or builder is responsible for the receiving roof, flashings, underlay, curb, weathering and watertight integration around the tower.
Our responsibility is the supplied turret and the specific interfaces included in our Contract.
Water entering from the surrounding roof, support curb, flashings or work by others is not a product defect unless caused by our defective design, Goods, instructions or installation scope.
11. Structural responsibility
The customer must provide product dimensions and weight to a competent structural professional and ensure the receiving structure is designed or verified for dead load, wind load, dynamic lifting load and other relevant actions.
We do not approve the existing building merely by accepting an order.
No tower should be installed where structural confirmation reasonably required for the project has not been obtained.
12. Planning and compliance
The property owner is responsible for checking planning permission, permitted-development rights, listed-building consent, conservation-area controls, Building Regulations and other local requirements.
We can provide product information and may quote separately for design support, but do not guarantee approval.
For international projects, the customer is responsible for local codes, permits, import requirements and appointment of competent local professionals.
13. Electrical work and clock commissioning
Mains electrical work must be completed and certified by a competent electrician unless expressly included.
Power must be isolated before access to electrical components.
Clock equipment must be installed, configured and maintained in accordance with its supplier instructions.
Radio, GPS, network or other automatic time-control performance depends on signal and site conditions.
14. Alterations
Do not cut, drill, dismantle, overpaint, reseal, adapt or attach equipment to the tower outside approved details without written agreement.
An alteration does not automatically invalidate every right, but we are not responsible for a problem to the extent it was caused or materially worsened by that alteration.
15. Completion and snagging
Where we install, practical completion occurs when the included work is substantially complete and the tower can be used for its intended purpose, subject to minor snagging that does not prevent safe use.
The customer should identify visible snagging promptly. We will return within a reasonable time to complete accepted snagging.
Minor snagging is not a reason to withhold a disproportionate amount of payment.
16. Damage and making good
We will take reasonable care of the Site and existing finishes within our work area.
Unless included, decoration, specialist conservation repair, extensive roof replacement, landscaping and making good by other trades are excluded.
We are not responsible for pre-existing defects or unavoidable minor disturbance inherent in the agreed installation, provided reasonable care and skill are used.
17. Health and safety
All high-level work must be completed by competent persons using safe access.
Customers and other contractors must follow site safety instructions and must not interfere with lifting or installation.
The parties remain responsible for their own duties under health and safety law, including any applicable Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 duties.
18. International delivery
Overseas packing, freight, insurance, Incoterms, customs clearance, import duties, local transport, offloading and installation are as stated in the Quotation.
Unless agreed otherwise, the overseas customer acts as importer of record and appoints the local installer.
Delivery dates may be affected by customs, ports, carriers and authorities outside our control.
19. Consumer rights
Nothing in these Delivery and Installation Terms limits a Consumer’s statutory rights, including the requirement that installation included in our Contract is carried out correctly and with reasonable care and skill.
20. Contact
Delivery and installation queries should be sent to enquiries@bespoketowerclocks.co.uk with the project reference, Site address, contact details and relevant photographs or drawings.
